Gomersal & Cleckheaton FC win derby with Littletown to go through to cup semi-finals
Gomersal & Cleckheaton beat local rivals Littletown to progress to the semi-finals of the West Yorkshire League Cup.
A 2-1 success in a well contested tie made it a hat-trick of local derby victories for Gomersal & Cleckheaton, backing up the team’s results from the West Yorkshire Premier Division this season when they beat Littletown 4-2 and 6-1.
In red hot conditions both teams battled hard in a close fought encounter at East Bierley. Gomersal had more control in the first half and went in at half-time with a 2-0 lead through goals from Jonny Irving and Josh Carney.
Littletown grew into the game in the second half, having more of the ball, and their goal, scored by Reece Thompson, came from a mix-up at the back between the defence and the goalkeeper.

But the hosts held strong to see the game out and they will now face Wyke Wanderers in the semi-finals on Wednesday, May 6 at Fleet Lane, West Riding HQ.
Man of the match for Littletown was Louis Holt, but individual mistakes and squandered chances ultimately told the story of a poor second half of the season for the team.
Littletown now face Howden Clough in the Heavy Woollen Cup final on Thursday night.
Division Two leaders Overthorpe Sports Club took a giant stride towards the title with a 2-1 derby success against Dewsbury Moor.
Although they had little to play for Moor were competitive for much of the contest with Max Pedley scoring.
But Overthorpe improved in the second half after a below standard first 45 minutes and clinched victory with Connor Patchett netting and the winner coming from Jamal Simpson.
Lucas Whitworth and Oliver Busfield deserved mention for their efforts while Reece Patterson, Kobe Fensom and Sam Adams all made a big impact from the bench. But man of the match went to Abdou Bojang for a relentless performance full of energy, physicality, and experience.
Howden Clough lost ground in the title race when they were off colour in a 2-1 home loss to Wetherby Athletic.
Luck was not on their side as they hit the post three times and crossbar once, but their inability to do the basic stuff right caught them out against second from bottom opponents who fought for everything to the final whistle.
Warren Walker scored the only goal in a result that left Clough in fourth place, 11 points behind leaders Overthorpe, but with three games in hand and four still to play.
There was disappointment in midweek as well as Howden Clough lost 3-2 at Altofts in a West Yorkshire League Cup quarter-final.
They came close to pulling off another cup upset against opponents in fourth in the Premier League and had chances to take it to extra-time,
But despite goals from Walker and Alfie Davey it was Altofts who went through.
